It is pretty cool that we get to leave the mission on a weekly
basis. The border is not distinct at all. Most of the city of Lewisville
is in our mission, but there is a pretty big chunk in the
Dallas Mission. The worst part of this is that almost all of the members
in the branch, active or not, live in the Dallas Mission. I don't think
very many missionaries get to leave the mission ever, unless they get
to go to the Dallas temple with one of their former investigators.
Everyone in our zone is English speaking. There
are six English areas in our zone, and one Spanish area, (ours!!!) and
our area covers all of the area of the six English ones. Our area is
mostly Flower Mound, Lewisville, and Lake Cities, but there are a ton of
apartments in Lewisville, so we spend basically all of our time there.
So whenever I go on exchange it is in English, which is nice and bad at
the same time because I need to practice my Spanish, but I get to
actually understand what they are saying!!!!!!!!
We don't really use the bikes much
right now because our area is so big, and Elder Galvez's bike is broken.
But we got an email from the President today that said all vehicles
should be parked at least one day a week, so we should head out on the
bikes here pretty soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, let's get down to the Nitty Gritty! Investigators.
There
was a baptism in our district this Saturday!!!!!!! Her name is Rachel, and she is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! Elder Galvez is the district
leader, so he interviewed her on Tuesday. Her brother Thomas had an
interview too, but due to some confusion with the Word of Wisdom, he is
going to be baptized this week instead. They were SOOOO ready to be
baptized!!! While Elder Galvez was interviewing them, I got to chat with
her family and Elder Medel and Elder Murdock, the Elders that
taught Rachel and Thomas. Rachel has been wanting to get baptized for
forever, and Thomas has come a long way!!!! It's awesome to see them and
try to think of our investigators at that stage. None of them are super
close, but we can see that they might be getting there. It's pretty
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have taught tons of people, but there are only a few solid
investigators. One of them is Raul. I told you all a little about him.
He's awesome, but he just needs to recognize if he has an answer from
God about the Book of Mormon.
Another is someone I mentioned before too. Alex and
Jeoval and Priscilla are the people in this household that are the most
interested. They are all probably in their twenties or thirties, and
especially Alex and Priscilla have really been responsive!!!!! Priscilla
prays in our lessons, and they both want to come to church. Alex says
it makes sense that the Bible is missing stuff because it says things
that confuse him. We have shared things from the Book of Mormon that he
said make a lot more sense and are really simple. We are hoping to set a
baptismal date with all three of them this week!!!!
There is also this family, the Mejia family. The mother
and father have been members for a long time, but they stopped going to
church because of some extended family problems. Their kids are 12 and
10. We're trying to help them see the importance of going to church and
partaking of the sacrament in order to renew the baptismal covenant and
why it's so important. So we can live for ever with God again!!!!!!!!!!
The few members in our branch that live in our area are
really awesome!!!!!! Mark Castro goes on exchanges with us all of the
time!!! Like more than twice a week, normally!!!!!!! He has two kids and
his mom lives with him. She is a native from El Salvador and she makes
us the best food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So much is happening here, and we see the hand of the
Lord everywhere in our lives and in other people's lives!!!! His love
for all of us is so amazing!!!!!!!!!!
